These open source software have no copyright and can be used for free, edited and published or used anywhere as their programming code is also available easily. In this article, we compare some of the best available open source PBX software.

Asterisk

One of the most widely used open source VoIP and PBX software with many features that are continuously updated. The leading software offers a long list of features despite being free as the tool grow every year. Asterisk is also utilized by many setups and not only that, it is the engine behind the start of many providers.
Beside the standard PBX features you would like to find like Interactive Voice Response, conference calls and visual voicemails, the tool allows you to turn any computer into a communications server. One of the most famous alternatives to Asterisk and was established in 2004. The software that lets you build your own voice and video communications has many features found in Asterisk and has its own unified communications solution. It brings features and tools to make unified messaging, IM, chat and customized mobile clients all with any customization.
But while the first choice is totally free, this application while being free has professional support that starts at 495$ per month. However, this support is not essential to edit it's open source code and customize it to make your own solution.

Elastix

This platform was based on the Asterisk leading one, and it is a unified communications server software offering solutions for IP PBX, email, IM, Faxing and many more. The software focuses on the solutions needed for small businesses and it borrows features from many other software.
